Try to login Mincraft offline, if your able to launch Minecraft offline mode, then its the host issue. If your unable to launch Minecraft offline mode, than we have an issue.

If is logging problem, then three possible problems:
1. Either you didnt let your firewall added to exception.
2. Anti-virus could be blocking, since Minecraft is an executable file.
3. Entering wrong password and/or username.

You have Avast ? You do know it gives you a seperate fire wall in some cases, wich prevents some things (like minecraft) to go through right ? I had the same problem a few years ago with Avast, I just deleted Avast and everything worked out fine after

I just stopped avast!s firewall, while keeping my Windows firewall (on which I have MC allowed through), allowing me to play. Im going to play MC now, so goodbye :)
